Mr. Haitham Shakarchi serves as the President of the United Nations Association of the Republic of Iraq (UNA-IRAQ), leading national efforts to promote the values and principles of the United Nations through youth empowerment, diplomacy, and international cooperation.
He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Iraqi Youth Model United Nations, a pioneering youth-led initiative established in 2021 to advance diplomatic education and leadership among Iraqi youth. Under his leadership, IYMUN has successfully engaged Iraqi delegates in major international conferences, including participation at the United Nations in Vienna, and has built strategic partnerships with global Model United Nations platforms.
Mr. Shakarchi holds a Master’s degree in Translation from the University of Mosul, where he specialized in simultaneous interpretation. He has provided professional interpretation and translation services for international organizations and stakeholders, facilitating high-level communication between local communities, government entities, and international partners.
His professional experience spans program management, humanitarian coordination, and stakeholder engagement, having contributed to projects benefiting over 1,200 individuals in Nineveh Governorate in collaboration with organizations such as GIZ and Malteser International.
As President of UNA-IRAQ, Mr. Shakarchi is committed to strengthening Iraq’s engagement with the global community, fostering youth participation in international affairs, and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals through inclusive dialogue and impactful initiatives.
